Social Life/Special Events

Devils After Dark
Each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening, you may participate in events specifically planned for you, including bus trips to local malls, concerts, poetry recitals, and game tournaments.  All events are free and open to all students.

Trinity Nights
Every Friday night, Trinity Café hosts a student band concert or karaoke night.  You can enjoy a latte and a chocolate chip cookie as you listen to your classmates perform.

Spring Carnival
The students of East Campus Council throw a huge bash to celebrate the arrival of warm weather.  Past Spring Carnivals have included a cook-out, concert, ice cream, and carnival rides.

Ice Ball
A signature event for you as first-year students, the Ice Ball kicks off the second semester with an elegant semi-formal event.

Midnight Breakfast
Midnight Breakfast is a Duke tradition during which the dining halls serve a special late-night meal of pizza, wings, and pancakes to feed students studying for finals.  Each Midnight Breakfast unveils a special theme and signature t-shirt.

Bricks to Stone
Bricks to Stone is a ceremony that signals the end of the first-year experience and the transition to the larger Duke community.  Students are “pinned” with a special class pin by administrators and faculty who have played meaningful roles during the students’ first year at Duke.

Froshlife
Froshlife is a competition among East Campus residence halls whose students are given equipment to make short movies about their first year at Duke.  Entries are judged at an annual East Campus gala.

Spiritual Life
Twenty-seven religious organizations serve Duke students. Many of these ministries hold services or meetings on East Campus, or organize events specifically for first-year students.  First-year students are welcomed at events and services across campus.

Watch this year’s movies.
