Pegram Hall is the residence of the Performing Arts Living/Learning Community, open to everyone with an interest in the arts. The spring semester’s Froshlife movie project involves students from across East Campus in a creative, collaborative extracurricular film competition. The April ARTSFest features museum lectures, film screenings, music performances, and more. East Campus Art Faculty in ResidenceThree East Campus Faculty in Residence have connections to arts programs: DepartmentsThe Departments of Art & Art History, Theater Studies, and Music and the programs in Dance and Film/Video/Digital have their offices on East Campus. Performance spaces range from the practice rooms in the Mary Duke Biddle Music Building to the 800-seat concert Hall in Baldwin Auditorium. Duke’s radio station, WXDU, broadcasts from Bivins Building. The Ark was Duke’s first gymnasium, and now serves as a dance space. Art Facilities within Walking Distance of East CampusEast Campus is within walking distance of the Smith Warehouse, home to the Arts, Culture, and Technology Studios, and the Center for Documentary Studies, which features varied photography, film, and video events. |
Tune the dial to 88.7 FM to hear Duke student DJs broadcasting truly eclectic, free-form shows, with styles ranging from twang to two-step, indie rock to Indian, and hip-hop to hardcore. Sunday nights feature the WXDU sports crew, who cover all you need to know about Duke and Triangle-area sports.
